NASCAR's Top 5

Martin Truex Jr. won at Sonoma yesterday, giving him his 3rd victory of the season. He also won the Clash at the Coliseum and picked a win at Dover. Truex has always been solid at Sonoma so really the win should be no surprise. Does his win effect our top 5 in NASCAR at this point? Read below and find out!

5- Ryan Blaney

Ryan Blaney, up until a few weeks ago, was in the midst of a 59 race losing streak. Now that the proverbial elephant is out of the closet we can look at some other things. He's probably racing the best he has all season at the current moment. He's had a lead in his last almost handful of races. Blaney dominated in Charlotte, where he picked up his win, by leading for 163 total laps. Now that the win monkey is off his back, we can focus on the fact that he's racing pretty darn well.

4- Ross Chatain

Chastain seems to be that guy that fans are either going to love or hate. Agree or disagree with his tactics, he's a driver to be reckoned with. He's had a good number of lead laps so far this season which I suppose plays a big role in our ranking him 4th. Chastain better be careful though because he's in a bit of a cool period. He hasn't really been much of a factor in the last few races and needs a solid race to stay ranked this high.

3- William Byron

Byron has 3 wins this season, which keeps him at number 4. But the fact is 2 of those wins were on March 5 at Las Vegas and March 12 at Phoenix. Those victories feel like a long time ago. However he did pick up win number 3 at Darlington on May 14. Byron currently ranks first in lead laps on the season.

2- Kyle Busch

Busch has 3 wins this season, which can't be ignored. But has he been that good of a racer or has he been very opportunistic, or a little of both? Over half of his not very impressive 214 lead laps came in a single race a couple of weeks ago. Either way, whether great or opportunistic, winners win and Busch has been winning and being a key car in many races.

1- Kyle Larson

For me, first thing first is that Larson passes the eye test. Everybody has an off week, but most weeks, either his car looks really fast or he just outraces people in spite of the car. It feels like every Sunday drivers have to deal with Kyle Larson. He's cooling off a little in the last 3 races but a lot of that has had to do with dimply not finishing. As of right now, if I had to bet my livelihood one 1 racer on 1 Sunday, I'd probably turn to Kyle Larson.
