It's Not A Vacation Without The Pit Spitters

Every family needs a good vacation, a time to destress and enjoy the company of loved ones. Today is that day for my family. For the ninth straight summer, we are packing up and making a week long excursion to Traverse City, Michigan.

Traverse City is one of the most beautiful areas in Michigan and well beyond that if you ask me. There are so many aspects of Traverse City that make it such a wonderful place. Things like Old Mission Peninsula, the East and West Grand Traverse Bay's and the infamous wineries are all things that attract tourists to the area. Traverse City might be most famous for the National Cherry Festival. It's an 8 day celebration of everything cherry that draws more than 500,000 locals and tourists.

As the home of the National Cherry Festival, it seems fitting to have a minor league baseball team called the Traverse City Pit Spitters. The Pit Spitters have become an essential component of a beautiful city. They are nothing short of another must see when visiting Traverse City.

Let's start with the stadium. The Pit Spitters play at Turtle Creek Stadium which is in partnership with Grand Traverse Resort and Casinos. It's your classic close to the action , not a bad seat in the house minor league baseball stadium.

How about the team? The Pit Spitters play in the Great Lakes East division of the Northwoods League. In their inaugural 2019 season they took home a league championship. This year the Pit Spitters sit 6.5 games out behind the Kalamazoo Gowlers. They are led at the plate by Parker Brosius, a centerfielder from Georgia Tech. He's currently hitting .297 with 24 RBI's. Aren Gustafson is leading the way on the mound with 6 victories.

The next time you're visiting the Traverse City area, I highly suggest making the stop at Turtle Creek Stadium and watching some exciting and high quality minor league baseball. The Traverse City Pit Spitters should be on your must see list as you travel to northern Michigan. I know that me and my family will be there this week!
