Today is the day! After all the mock drafts and talks about team needs and player fits, the NFL draft will begin. Quarterbacks are always a hot button topic when it comes to the draft and that's especially true this season where as many as 6 QB's have been discussed as possible1st round selections. Kamp's Korner is going to give you our predictions for the first 5 quarterbacks taken where we think they'll go.
#1 - Chicago Bears: Caleb Williams (USC)
Williams has pretty much been predicted as the #1 pick since the draft ended last year. The Bears make it a reality tonight. His creativity and arm strength give him too high of a ceiling to pass up. Williams could come in and start immediately and take advantage of an improved Chicago WR room.
#2 - Washington Commanders: Drake Maye (North Carolina)
The first 2 picks are sort of chalk picks, but hey, they seem like the logical choices for a reason. The Commanders have new everything, from owners to coaches, so a new QB to build around just makes sense. Maye is a high IQ player that makes the right pass in the right scenarios.
#3 - TRADE! The Minnesota Vikings jump up to #3: Jayden Daniels (LSU)
The Vikings need a quarterback in the worst way and can't sit at #11 and hope that things fall their way. Instead they jump up and guarantee themselves a top QB. He might be enough to keep Justin Jefferson satisfied as well with his ability to drop the ball in a bucket on the outside.
#6 - New York Giants: JJ McCarthy (Michigan)
The previous trade either did the Giants a favor or stole their guy out from under their noses. Depends how you feel about the prospects. Either way, McCarthy is now a Giant. Some may call JJ "unproven" in the run dominated Michigan offense, but a 27-1 record doesn't happen by accident. Plus, everyone really holds 2 tough games against him, while in the other 26, he did exactly what he needed to do.
#13 - Las Vegas Raiders: Michael Penix Jr. (Washington)
The Raiders kind of proverbially "get caught knapping". In what seems to be Raiders fashion they pull a pretty extreme reach and grab Penix at 13. While not a bad selection, I think it comes way to early. I'm not so down on this if trade back to the bottom of the first round to do it. Just for fun, keep your eyes on the Detroit Lions in this scenario. Brad Holmes almost certainly will trade his first pick and this would be a prime opportunity for both teams to get what they're looking for.
