Basketball Star Stands Out In First Track Season

Jayden 'JJ' Brock has been a bona fide basketball star in Michigan since he stepped into high school. He made the decision this spring to branch out and put his elite athleticism to the test by joining his Byron Center High School's track team for the first time. That proved to be a very wise decision.

Brock wasn't just successful, he was quite literally a record breaker. Early in the track season he broke the Byron Center school record in the long jump. The old record, established in 2018, was 21'6.75". Brock shattered that record by reaching 22'3.25". The record breaking jump landed him an invitation to the New Balance Nationals. With Brock added to the track team and the points he brought with him, Byron Center won the OK Conference Championship for the first time in school history. He was also an elite high jumper as well.

Brock shined yet again at the Division 1 State Team Finals. He finished first in the long jump, contributing 77 points to the team total. He finished 7th in the state in the high jump. Yesterday in the D1 individual state finals, he finished in an impressive 8th place in the long jump.

In a matter of just a few months Brock went from the new to the game to All-State. In that process, he has opened many doors and possible opportunities for himself. Brock is most obviously an elite overall athlete. It's been known for a while that he was a next level basketball player, as you can see from his basketball coverage here:  https://prephoops.com/player/jayden-brock/. He also looks the part of a next level track athlete. Brock now has the opportunity to contemplate being a dual sport athlete at the next level.
