Football is king in Michigan and throughout the midwest. There are some players that are putting their games in high gear as we approach the middle of the season. We're going to look at 5 players from the mitten state that are currently "catching fire".
Rowan Zickert (2026, QB, Benzie Central)
Zickert is a terrific all around athlete that is also a high level basketball prospect in the state as well. He's a dangerous dual threat quarterback. Last week in a win against Tawas, Zickert literally carried the load in a Benzie Central win against Tawas, scoring all 3 of his team's touchdowns on the ground. He has the mental and physical strength needed to handle the load and is a high upside QB prospect.
James Rush (2026, RB, Saline)
Rush has had a huge junior season, showing why Division 1 schools are in competition for his services at the next level. He hasn't just padded stats, but instead, has come up with big runs and big TD's in key moments for the Hornets. Rush has shown that he can be a shifty back with good balance and core strength. The threat of Rush out of the backfield has been critical to Saline's 4-0 start.
Samson Gash (2026, WR / DB, Detroit Catholic Central)
Gash is a big time player who's talent is certainly showing at this point in the season. He has a few mid major offers and some high major interest. It's easy to see why when he hits the outside thirds of the field. Gash can hit another level with his breakaway speed. He also shows off solid balance, making shoe strong tackles tough to come by. In week 4, Gash finished with 50 yards rushing on 5 attempts with a TD. He also added 44 yards receiving.
Tomarion Steward (2026, RB, Mona Shores)
Steward is turning it up as the football season churns on. He looks like he's just getting stronger and more powerful on his carries. Steward is a patient runner that will find a crease. He won't tip toe through the hole either. Steward will run through contact, and even initiate it. He broke tackles for a huge TD in a 14-12 win against Byron Center. It's easy to see why Division 1 schools are excited about Steward and his talent.
