There was some solid basketball to be seen last night at Stockbridge when they welcomed New Lothrop. The Hornets came away with a 48-26 victory. The win moved their record to 12-1 on the season and extended their current win streak to 9. Both teams had some very impressive player performances that we'll take a closer look at.
Ashlyn Orr (2025, F, New Lothrop)
Orr was simply dominant in the win against Stockbridge. She consistently sought and found space near the rim and used strong hands on basically every catch. Orr scored in a wide variety of ways. She had a tough righty finish through her defender, a catch and score on a rim run and even stepped outside and buried a catch and shoot 3 from the top. Orr even used a shot fake and take to get a bucket. She showed that she could pass off the high post with a pretty feed to a cutter for an assist. Orr was a factor defensively as well. She did an excellent job sliding over in the paint and helping on the block.
Melina Sayre (2026, G, Stockbridge)
The Panthers have something here with this talented junior. Sayre had good handles and the ability to use them to attack and pressure a defense. She attacked the baseline twice for buckets, once using a shot fake and getting a step with it and the other with a nice floater finish. Sayre showed that she can use her jumper when she connected on a catch and shoot wing 3. She even buried a contested pull up free throw line jumper. Sayre was solid defensively. She deflected a pass and turned it into a steal and a fast break layup. Sayre also picked up steal and turned it into an assist.
Katelyn Wendling (2027, G/F, New Lothrop)
It's easy to see why Wendling is considered a top prospect in the class of 2027. I loved the way she played D on the trap. Her feet were steady and arms up, trying to force the high lob pass. Wendling has the look of a very versatile player that's comfortable on or off the ball. She had a nice right to left take that she scored off contact. Wendling found a small lane, slid into it and drew the foul on a floater. She kept the ball high on an offensive board and picked up a put back. Wendling attacked the rim and scored using a shot fake as well as a cut, catch and score.
Bella Prybus (2027, G, Stockbridge)
Prybus came off the bench, but had a clear and definite impact on the game. She had one of the better passes in the game with a sneaky wrap around pass that found her teammate in a scoring position at the rim. Prybus had an offensive board that she turned into a 1-2 trip to the foul line. She also hit a huge wing triple that brough Stockbridge back to within 7 halfway through the 3rd quarter.
Laina Yates (2025, G, New Lothrop)
The senior played just like that - a senior. She always seemed to look up the floor when the ball was in her hands, but was patient and smart with it. Yates was outstanding moving the ball with the pass. She had a nice touch pass inside from the corner, a bounce pass through a small window that hit her teammate in stride for a bucket and a wrap around bounce pass feed for an assist. Yates even threw in a catch and shoot wing 3 for good measure.
