Player Impressions - Fowlerville v. St. John's

St. John's traveled to Fowlerville for a key matchup. In a tough matchup between 2 quality teams, St. John's came out on top by a score of 57-44. The Redwings effectively worked their full court pressure and defending baseline to baseline created turnovers and pace. St. John's grabbed a quick lead and held off Fowlerville runs throughout the game.

This was a high quality basketball game with some very talented and intriguing players and prospects. We're going to take a closer look at some of the talent that took the court on Friday evening.

Rowan Matice (2028, G, St. John's)

The Redwings have a very exciting freshman with a bright future. She created turnovers with the trap that led directly to points for her. Matice also took advantage of her teammates by scoring with a righty layup off a TO. She was able to score off a straight line drive to the left and converted a physical and 1 as well. Matice kept up her defensive intensity with a steal and assist later in the game. She showed her ability to play on the ball as the lead handler and distributor with a bounce pass post feed. Matice was creating havoc defensively all game, picking up a pass deflection and steal off of it.

Mariah Kirby (2026, F, Fowlerville)

The junior guard was very impressive in the game. It was easy to notice how smooth she could be with the ball and that she brought energy to the floor, which was evident with her willingness to hit the ground for a loose ball. Kirby showed the she can distribute on the break when she caught the ball and kicked it to a cutter quickly without even putting the ball on the the floor. This pass led to an uncontested layup. Kirby was able to attack the rim offensively, specifically with an impressive take off a dribble hand off that led to a right handed layup. She worked really hard on the glass in the second half.

Paityn Chant (2025, G, St. John's)

Chant was fun to watch in the win against Fowlerville. She showed a lot of diversity in her offensive attack. Chant was able to get to the rim athletically and finish. She also put her back to the basket and picked up a power score and later she finished over her left shoulder. Chant even beat the defense back, caught a pass and picked up the foul. She turned defense into offense with a steal and a score. Chant played a really physical 2nd half and she showed that she has the strength and fortitude to do so.

Tommi Kleinschmidt (2025, Wing, Fowlerville)

Kleinschmidt was very solid both with the ball and working off of it. She started things off with a tough righty drive and a mid range flip in bucket off of it. Kleinschmidt was able to draw a foul off a really pretty euro step move to the left. She had a nice pull up jumper for a deep 2 that she buried without hesitation. Kleinschmidt swing the ball around the perimeter, trusting that it would come back to her if she worked for it. She took 90% cuts off passes, once leading directly to a catch and shoot triple.

Joce Kotowicz (2025, G, St. John's)

Kotowicz is a very skilled and talented prospect and it was easy to see why scouts are high on her game. She's a player that I've seen numerous times and she always puts on a show in some way. A couple years ago Kotowicz was a scorer. But it was her defense that ruled the day on Friday. She was a terror in the passing lanes, picking up a handful of deflections on the night. Kotowicz is a physically strong player and she showed that in this game with solid screens and a physical take to the rim. She also sliced through the D with a righty drive and a bucket.

Ella Olrich (2026, G, Fowlerville)

This was my first time scouting or evaluating Olrich's game. I'm glad I did because she has some very real talent. She was diverse in her scoring in the game. Olrich found open space on the block, caught the pass and scored. She had a highlight reel score off the baseline where she used a shot fake, went at the rim, and converted with a reverse layup. Olrich was solid shooting off the catch, where she hit a deep 2 and a triple. She made some plays on defense as well, with a steal in the passing lane and a deflection of a post feed that led to a turnover.

Abigail Tisdale (2026, Wing, St. John's)

Tisdale is a high upside player that can be a difference maker. She showed ease of movement with a tricky mid range spin and score.

McKenna Maybee (2026, G, Fowlerville)

Maybee is definitely a player to keep an eye on. She showed straight line quickness with the ball and had a pinpoint pass to a cutter for an assist.
