D1 Must See Matchups

The playoffs start back up in the quarterfinal round on Tuesday March 18. When looking at the Division 1 bracket, there were some potential player matchups that I found very interesting. Let's take a look at a couple of those possible matchups.

There could be an exciting matchup headed our way from the Bedord vs. Wayne Memorial game. There are elite post players on each of these teams, like Victoria Gray and Gabby Gerald.

Victoria Gray (2025, C, Bedford)

Gray is an Indiana volleyball commit, but she hasn't let her hoops game slide even a little bit. She's tall, strong and can play vertically. Gray is a walking and talking points and rebounds double-double. It's really more of a surprise when she DOESN'T have one. If Gray can dominate the glass and keep Wayne Memorial's talented guards to 1 shot possessions, it could go a long way toward a win.

Gabby Gerald (2025, F/C, Wayne Memorial)

If anyone can match up with Gray, it may be Gerald. She's also very strong and very physical and could battle the best for position under the glass. Gerald is a terrific rebounder in her own right. Offensively, she has some playmaker in her and can score from multiple levels. It might be a factor if Gerald can force Gray out of the lane on D.

There are a couple guards with well rounded games that personify team basketball that could matchup with each other when West Bloomfield takes on Utica Ford. Breasia Gamble and Tyra Wright will both be key factors for their teams in this game.

Breasia Gamble (2025, G/F, West Bloomfield)

Gamble features a well rounded game. She can attack and score off the bounce, but doesn't force the issue or take bad looks. Gamble is just as content drawing the D and distributing the ball while on the move. She's underrated as a passer. Gamble is also a solid 2 way player that's willing to be an energy defender.

Tyra Wright (2025, G, Henry Ford II)

I like the comparisons between these 2 players. Wright is the definition of a player that puts we over me when she plays the game. Just like Gamble, she can be an energy defender. I've seen it for almost 4 years now. Wright will sacrifice on the defensive end and speed the game up and make her opponent uncomfortable. Offensively Wright can shoot as well as play with pace.
