PORTLAND
Portland continued their dominance in the CAAC White by winning their 5th title in the last 6 years. In addition to having high level players, they also have the depth and multiple contributors needed on a championship team. Lilly Thelen, a junior guard, has been a staple of consistency in both her ability to score and distribute. Summer Stopczynski, another junior guard, has been big time this season for Portland. She's a gritty player that can attack the rim like she attacks the game in general. Leigha Roberson is a sophomore post player with skills and upside. Her ability to dominate near the rim has been huge. Every team needs seasoned seniors and Paige Spedoske was just that. As you can see by just the players discussed here, there is a lot of talent coming back again next year, so I wouldn't expect Portland to be stumbling any time in the near future.
PARMA WESTERN
Parma Western proved themselves as a championship team. They came away from the conference season with an undefeated 12-0 mark and earned themselves the Interstate 8 conference title. Western showed all season that they can attack their opponent and win in so many different ways. They have a lot of high basketball IQ players, making them a mentally tough team. Bayli Stewart is an elite athlete with a silky smooth game. She's so patient on offense which makes her all the more efficient. Rayah Hitt could be classified as one of the most talented juniors in the state of Michigan. She has volleyball line type of range on her jumper, but can just as easily use her crafty handles to go get to the rim. Aubree Allen is a top notch junior post player. She has repeatedly shown the ability to set the tone of the game under the rim where shhe dominates the glass and picks up high percentage looks at the rim. Jynelle Lewis has been critical to their success as well with her play as a senior floor leader.
