We've already looked at some seniors and juniors that we think deserve some ink for their big seasons so far. Now we'll do the same for some star sophomores and freshman!
Cece Arico (2027, G, Detroit Country Day)
Arico may be one of the more talented 2027's in THE COUNTRY, let alone in Michigan. Everyone that follows girls high school basketball knows about the physical gifts and the numbers and the performances this season. They've just been outstanding. But now, let's look at the mental game. Arico just has a feel for the flow of a game that doesn't come around very often. Her mental mistakes on the basketball court are less than few and far between.
Mia McGregor (2027, PG, Mio)
Small town player with a huge game. How fitting is it that her school are the "Thunderbolts"? McGregor is the lightning that sets of the Thunderbolts. She's a flat out electric scorer that has to be picked up at half court. Watching McGregor play is like a video game. She definitely puts up video game numbers. Remember trying to stop Bo Jackson in Tecmo Bowl? Yea, McGregor is similar.
Nuray Fricke (2028, G, Big Rapids)
Fricke's name is on the map to say the least. She's been a consistent and efficient scorer for Big Rapids, even as just a freshman. It takes mental toughness to be that consistent that early in a high school career. I really like he ability to play on or off the ball and her willingness to look for and earn good looks at the rim. There's a lot of upside in this talented prospect.
Zariya McCrary (2028, SF, Saginaw Heritage)
McCrary has sent a message to the state, and let's be honest probably beyond that, so far this season. Don't look at her height and say she's a post player, because that doesn't do her game justice. She's a superstar wing. McCrary can attack the rim from the baseline to the corner and can use both hands doing it. She has pretty touch on finishes and floaters and also features impressive body control and balance.
Lucy Young (2028, PF, Hackett)
How often do we get to see freshman throw out a triple-double? Well Lucy Young did it the other night by notching 26 points, 12 rebounds and 10 steals. What do I write to follow that? The rest seems pretty obvious - versatile, 2 way player, etc etc etc. Fans of the game, go watch her play. College coaches, I'd start recruiting early.
